DUI
Driving with a blood alcohol concentration, or BAC, of 0.08 percent, is illegal in the state of California. Commercials drivers’ legal limit is just 0.04 percent, and drivers who are under 21 years of age have a legal limit of 0.01 percent.
What many may not be aware of is that having any alcohol in the bloodstream may be sufficient for a charge of driving under the influence. A BAC of just 0.03 percent can be cause for immediate arrest. DUI charges can also apply to those who are driving under the influence of prescription or over-the-counter medications or illegal drugs, if those substances are having a negative impact on their ability to drive.
California imposes particularly harsh penalties for driving under the influence. Drivers may be facing a four-month suspension to two-year revocation of their licenses. Mandatory DUI programs may last up to nine months, and some drivers may even be facing jail time.
